About these dragon coloring pages
By The Color Page Team · Updated · How we make them
Looking for dragon coloring pages your kid will actually want to finish? These free printable dragons include a baby dragon hatching from its egg, a dragon guarding a treasure chest, one hosting a tea party and big castle scenes for older kids. Print one page or the whole set as a free PDF, on US Letter or A4.
All of them are friendly storybook dragons, so they're fine for little kids and bedtime. The easy pages have big shapes for preschool and kindergarten, and the detailed pages have whole dragon villages to fill in. They're our own drawings, not characters from any movie or game.
Which dragon page should we print?
- Preschool and kindergarten: the baby dragon hatching, the dragon holding a star and the dragon on a mushroom have big, simple shapes.
- Ages 6 to 9: try the dragon tea party, the dragon riding a rainbow or the dragon in a library.
- Older kids and grown-ups: the dragon mountain village, the sky castle and the festival courtyard take a while, in a good way.
Are dragons real?
No, but people have told dragon stories for thousands of years. In old European tales, dragons usually have wings, breathe fire and guard gold. In Chinese stories, they're long and wingless, and they bring rain and good luck. The closest real animal is the Komodo dragon, a giant lizard from Indonesia. If your kid loves big creatures, see our dinosaur coloring pages and T. rex coloring pages.
Tips for Coloring a Dragon
- Pick the belly first. A lighter belly and a darker back make a dragon look solid right away.
- Color scales in rows. Two shades of one color, taking turns, looks great and is easy to do.
- Save metallic crayons for treasure. Gold and silver make a chest of coins pop.
- Forget green. Purple, teal and red dragons are all fair game.
