Easy Turkey Drawing, Step by Step
How to draw an easy turkey
Every turkey here starts the same way, and most kids can do it from memory after a try or two:
- Draw a big circle for the body.
- Add a smaller circle on top for the head.
- Draw a fan of round feathers behind the body.
- Add two eyes, a triangle beak and a wattle.
- Add two wings on the sides.
- Finish with two legs and feet.
Start with the easy turkey or the cute turkey. Then try the handprint turkey, which only needs a hand to trace, or the side view if your child wants a challenge.
Using these as a directed drawing lesson
Hand each child a blank sheet and draw one step at a time on the board, waiting until everyone's ready. It takes about 10 minutes for the whole class, and every turkey comes out a little different, which kids enjoy comparing.
After the drawing
Color it in, or add a hat, a sign or a pie. Older kids can write a sentence about it. Want something ready to color instead? See our turkey coloring pages and Thanksgiving coloring pages, or dress up your turkey with our disguise a turkey templates.
Tips for Drawing a Turkey
- Draw light, then go over it. Use a pencil first, then trace the final lines with a marker.
- Do one box at a time. Cover the next box with your hand so it doesn't feel like too much.
- Start big. A big round body leaves plenty of room for the feathers.
- Wobbly is fine. Every turkey looks different, and that's what makes it yours.
- Teaching a class? Draw each step on the board, wait, then move on together.
